Jineth Bedoya Lima gives her indemnisation for being a victim of the conflict back to the State

The Attorney considers and publicly maintains that the facts have fully been investigated, whereas 16 years of impunity have elapsed, with serious faults in the investigations. The State asserts that its agents did not participate in these crimes, whereas some evidences do indicate the responsibility of State agents in the abduction, torture and sexual violences against the journalist.

Truth, justice, full compensation and guarantees of non-repetition are interdependent rights that are supposed have coherence in order to be recognized and guaranteed by authorities. Delivering an amount of indemnisation while ignoring the truth and the responsibility of the State do not contribute to justice, but also affect and empty the compensation of victims.

The FLIP supports the position of the journalist and urges the Colombian State to deliver the necessary guarantees for penal investigations to move forward, in order to judge and punish the persons that are still not linked to the case. In the same sense it hopes that the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights - ICHR - rules on the substance of a case it knows since 2011, in order to take it to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights so that the responsibility of the Colombian State in the violations of Jineth Bedoya’s human rights could be declared.
