Four former members of the DAS intelligence service linked to the case of Claudia Julieta Duque

The other three persons linked to the trial are William Alberto Merchán, current telematics director of the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) (judicial police) of the Attorney General's Office ; Juan Carlos Sastoque, former detective of the G-3 (former spying group), asylee in the United States, who would have responsibility in the psychological torture against Duque. The last defendant is Néstor Pachón Bermúdez, who would be involved in the tracking and abduction of the journalist in 2001.

Twelve former officials of the DAS have been investigated, three of them have confessed their involvement in the crimes and have been condemned. Five other are currently at trial stage, among them two are detained in Colombia, two are fugitives and one is detained in the United States, waiting for his deportation.

Currently, the Prosecutor-General's Supreme Court Unit investigates the former director of the DAS Jorge Noguera for its responsibility in the events. Furthermore in 2014 the case has been transmitted to the  Accusations Committee of the House of Representatives in order to determinate the participation of the senator Álvaro Uribe Vélez in the case.

The FLIP considers positive the significant progresses in the investigations conducted to determinate the perpetrators of the crimes against the journalist. Furthermore the organisation hopes that the trial against the former officials will be moved forward with rigorousity and efficiency, and that the parties will count with all the procedural guarantees.

The FLIP calls the national entities, especially the National Protection Unit, to keep on providing security to the journalist and her family. This call to attention is made to remind the unit of its duty to concert the measures of protection with Duque and her daughter, in order to prevent the occurrence of prior intimidations, as it happened when news perpetrators had been linked to the case.

Furthermore the FLIP asks the competent authorities to provide all the guarantees to the justice workers and witnesses so that the investigations and the trial could proceed adequately.
