Attorney General’s statements go against freedom of expression

The nation’s Attorney General, Eduardo Montealegre, discussed the advances in the ongoing investigation of the explosions on July 2 in Bogota. He said the video, audio and cameras citizens have of are evidence, and thus “this type of material--video, audio and photos--can only be turned in to competent authorities, such as the Attorney’s General Office or the police. Turning this material in to persons besides the Judicial Police is prohibited. If citizens or companies hand over this kind of material to non-authority figures, they may be participating in actions that are punishable with time in prison.”

Tomorrow, June 24, 2015 the trial against the ex-director of the Administrative Security Department (DAS) José Miguel Narváez and the ex DAS intelligence directors Giancarlo Auqué de Silvestri and Enrique Alberto Ariza Rivas, the latter two are fugitives of justice.

Office of the Attorney General ends investigation against the man who confessed to kidnapping, torturing and raping Jineth Bedoya Lima

The Attorney General Office decided to preclude the investigation against Alejandro Cardenas Orozco, alias ‘JJ’, a member of the paramilitary Centuar Block in the evening hours of June 1. He had confessed on August 5, 2011 to his participation in the kidnapping of journalist Jineth Bedoya Lima.

On 14 February 2015, at 5:30 p.m., journalist Luis Peralta Cuellar, 63, was killed at his home in the municipality of El Doncello, in the department of Caquetá. The journalist operated the Linda Stereo radio station, an affiliate of Caracol radio, from his home.

From December 1st 2014, the Foundation for Press Freedom (FLIP) starts the execution of the project UDF-COL-13-579 "Strengthening Democracy through Freedom of Expression and Peace Agenda for Journalists in Colombia", funded by The United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF).
