Trial begins for the authors of threats and psychological torture against Claudia Julieta Duque
The two former DAS officers are being tried for crimes of psychological torture and threats against journalist Claudia Julieta Duque. A Even though Auqué and Ariza are not in custody, an order of capture exists. The authorities and CTI have not made the necessary efforts to make this happen and the situation is absurd considering Auqué is in the position to be captured as the authorities have said. Ariza still lives in the United States, even though the Attorney General’s Office expedition orders have been given to Interpol and the Chancellary’s requests for extradition have been given.
Since the beginning of the investigation, Duque and her lawyer have been victims of intimidation and stalking. The most recent cases occurred between January and March of this year. The International Commission of Human Rights and Colombian authorities were alerted of the threats.
Because Claudia Julieta Duque’s case is so relevant, the Foundation for Freedom of the Press (FLIP) asks that authorities take the necessary measures to guarantee the security of the journalist, her family and her lawyer.
FLIP hopes the trial will be undertaken in a rigorous, effective manner and the safety of all parties and participants will be guaranteed. The authorities must guarantee the protection of witnesses and judicial representatives.
