Radio host shot to death leaving station in western Colombia

Del Valle died around 9 p.m. in the Los Remedios clinic, a few blocks away from where he was shot.

Del Valle had worked for many stations in Cali for over 30 years. Most of his career had been spent a working at stations catering to the youth demographic. His colleagues said he was a fan of pop, rock and electronic music, and in the city he was known as one of the best voices in the valley.

After his death, authorities set in motion a plan to apprehend the killers who, according to local authorities, escaped in a taxi. Colonel Nelson Rincón, commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police, said that an interagency group had been put together, including the Technical Investigation Team (Cuerpo Técnico de Investigación), the Attorney General's Office and the police, to allow openness in the investigation and a better chance of solving the crime. He said there was some evidence that could point to a motive for the crime.

FLIP has no record of previous threats against the journalist. The organisation calls on police and the Attorney General to get the investigation underway and find out exactly what happened as soon as possible.
