Without a clue of the responsible of the crime, the case of the journalist Gabriel Cruz Díaz prescribes today

The Free Press Foundation (FLIP) rejects the prescription of the case of the journalist Gabriel Cruz Díaz, journalist, researcher and history lover.

Cruz Díaz was member of the History Academy of Montería and correspondent of El Heraldo and El Espectador. He was murder by unknown men with a cold steel weapon on November 11 of 1995 in Chinú, Córdoba.  By the time of his dead he was writing a book about the military activities against the leftists of the region.

Fifteen Years of Impunity in the Case of Journalist Jineth Bedoya

Washington, D.C. – October 2015During the 156th session of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, to be held in Washington from October 17 to 28, 2015, the Foundation for Freedom of the Press (FLIP) will accompany journalist Jineth Bedoya Lima in her official working meeting with the Commission. FLIP will provide information demonstrating the ongoing impunity for the crimes committed against her in May 2000, when she was kidnapped, tortured, and sexually assaulted in the course of her work as a journalist.

FLIP deplores the fact that despite the public importance of her case, legal barriers have continued and have only grown worse in 2015.

FLIP denounces killing of journalist Flor Alba Núñez Vargas in Pitalito, Huila

Flor Alba Núñez Vargas, director of the radio station La preferida Stereo, was killed in the late morning hours of September 10 in Pitalito, Huila.

Flor Alba also worked with other local media outlets: Canal 6, TV5 and Canal Nación TV. She had previously worked at HJDOBLEK radio station.

Colombia. Programme for protecting journalists needs overhaul

The Colombian government’s 15-year-old programme for protecting journalists is clearly flawed and needs an overhaul, according two new reports that have been published as part of the Periodismo en Riesgo (Journalism in Danger) campaign.

One of the reports was produced by the Bogotá-based Press Freedom Foundation (FLIP), the other by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and the Colombia Federation of Journalists (FECOLPER).
